What Can We Expect From Daniels?

Troy Daniels is ready to take advantage of his new shot with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

And when we write shot, we write it with pun intended because, well, Daniels can shoot the ball. Last year in the D-League, Daniels averaged 22 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the three-point line.

Shooting from deep is certainly something the Wolves could use some help doing. The Wolves have attempted and made the fewest three pointers in the NBA.

Daniels hopes he can help out in that department.

"I’m hoping I get the green light," Daniels said while addressing the Minnesota media for the first time on Sunday evening. "But I’m a shooter, so I have to do what I do, what got me here. Shoot the ball. There will be a lot more threes. I can tell you that."

Wolves head coach Flip Saunders said that trading veteran Corey Brewer was difficult, but Saunders saw this as an opportunity to develop younger players and acquire a player with potential.

"Based on the development of Muhammad, based on Wiggins, he was probably going to look to go elsewhere," Saunders said. "Based on that factor, we thought it'd be best - we're probably not vying for a playoff spot - for us to do what we can do and try and get some assets and move forward."

With Kevin Martin set to return in the next three weeks, we'll see another logjam at the wing, but right now, that's a good problem to have for a team that has been shorthanded for so much of the season.

Daniels isn't expected to contribute a whole lot early on,  He'll likely need a few days of practice with his new teammates and coaches. Saunders did say he will use him if he has to, though.

"It'll come more with time. Some of the assistants will work with him. we know what he can do," Saunders said. "He'll sit on the bench, and if we put him in, it'll be a scaled offense. I would prefer not to use him (early on), to be honest. That means we're probably playing pretty well and other guys are stepping up. But if we need to, we will."
