WNBA on ESPN2: Tulsa Shock Face Off Against Atlanta Dream

Last Saturday, the nation enjoyed its annual celebration of American independence. Tonight, the party continues in Atlanta, where the visiting Tulsa Shock will face off against the Dream in support of the Hoops for Troops initiative.

The 8-4 Shock will look to get back on track after dropping three straight. Meanwhile, the Dream flirt with a .500 record and its first three-game win streak of the season.

Here’s what to watch for tonight at Philips Arena (ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET):

Angel’s dominance

A two-time WNBA scoring champ, Atlanta star Angel McCoughtry is back at it again this year. In addition to her two game-winners (here and here), the veteran forward is averaging 20.7 points per game—second only to Elena Delle Donne’s ridiculous 27.2. On Sunday, she put up 23 in Atlanta’s win over Seattle.

Tulsa’s backcourt woes

After winning eight of its first nine games, Tulsa has dropped its last three after losing top performer Skylar Diggins for the season June 28 with a torn ACL. Second-year guard Odyssey Sims, meanwhile, has been out since injuring her left knee in Tulsa’s third game of the season. She’s been listed as day-to-day for the majority of her injury stint.

The loss of Diggins, the WNBA’s top All-Star vote-getter, and Sims, last year’s Rookie of the Year runner-up, has forced guards Riquna Williams and Brianna Kiesel to play major minutes in recent games. Look for both to make an impact tonight.
