Weekend Preview: Seven Games on NBA TV/ESPN Networks

Including Friday, just 17 days remain in the WNBA season, and games are beginning to have a playoff feel.

The Mystics and Sparks have distanced themselves from the pack for the fourth and final playoff spots in their respective conferences, so the focus has shifted to the battle for seeding between the league’s contenders.

This weekend’s national TV games offer a glimpse into what’s to come this September and October. Here’s the rundown:

*NOTE: Records and stats through Thursday, Aug. 28.

Games Notes: The Eastern Conference-leading Liberty welcome the Western Conference-leading Liberty to town for the first time this season. The matchup to watch is the Liberty defense — best in the league — against second-leading scorer Maya Moore.

Games Notes: The San Antonio Stars and Seattle Storm have struggled for much of the season, but both teams know the end of this season is all about generating confidence heading into next year. They’ve shown flashes of greatness and Friday’s nightcap should be a fun one.

Series Series: Mercury lead, 3-1

Games Notes: Maya Moore. Brittney Griner. DeWanna Bonner. Sylvia Fowles. This game has plenty of the league’s best stars and could be a preview of the Western Conference Finals. The Mercury have had the edge against the Lynx this season, but Minnesota will be looking to avenge the loss they suffered on August 23.

Mystics (15-11) vs. Storm (7-20), Sunday, 9 PM ET, NBA TV

Series Series: Mystics lead, 1-0

Games Notes: Ivory Latta and the Mystics are well within reach of the top seed in the Eastern Conference, but at this point in the season it’s all about taking care of business. They’ll get a chance to do so against Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm to close out the weekend on NBA TV.
