Stephen Curry Named Western Conference Player of the Week

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, November 16, through Sunday, November 22, the NBA announced today. The award is the fourth career weekly honor for Curry and second this season after receiving the award in the season’s opening week. The reigning MVP joins Tim Hardaway (5), Chris Mullin (4) and Baron Davis (4) as the only players in franchise history to earn at least four career weekly awards.

Curry led the Warriors to a 4-0 week with averages of 30.8 points (second in the NBA), 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.00 steals (tied for third) in 35.0 minutes, hitting 50.6 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from three-point range and 96.0 percent at the line. With four wins on the week, Golden State matched the best start to a season in NBA history at 15-0, joining the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets as the only teams to start 15-0 and becoming the first defending champion in league history to do so.

Curry’s week was highlighted by a 40-point, 11-rebound game on Nov. 19 at the Clippers, earning his first career 40-point/10-rebound game in Golden State’s 23-point comeback in Los Angeles. The 40-point performance came on the heels of a 37-point, nine-assist outing on Nov. 17 vs. Toronto, giving Curry four-straight 30-point games for the second time in his career (both this season).

Dating back to 2014-15, the Warriors have won 19 consecutive regular-season games, extending a franchise-record streak and becoming the 10th team in NBA history to win 19-straight regular-season contests. The Warriors have won a franchise-record 26-straight regular-season home games (2-0 last week) and seven-straight on the road (2-0), tied for the second-longest road win streak in club history.

The award marks the 38th time a Warriors player has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Cleveland’s LeBron James was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.
