Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut Named to NBA All-Defensive Teams

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut have been named to the 2014-15 NBA All-Defensive Team, earning First Team and Second Team honors, respectively.

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and center Andrew Bogut have been named to the 2014-15 NBA All-Defensive Team, earning First Team and Second Team honors, respectively, the league announced today. The All-Defensive selections are the first such career honors for both Green and Bogut, marking the first time the Warriors have had a pair of All-Defensive players in the same season since 1968-69, when Nate Thurmond was named to the First Team and Rudy LaRusso earned a spot on the Second Team.

Green, who finished as the runner-up in 2014-15 Defensive Player of the Year voting and led all candidates in first-place votes, joins Thurmond (1968-69, 1970-71) and Andre Iguodala (2013-14) as the only players in franchise history to be named to the All-Defensive First Team, giving the Warriors an All-Defensive First Team member in consecutive seasons for the first time ever.

Green appeared in 79 games (all starts) in 2014-15, posting career highs of 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.56 steals and 1.25 blocks in 31.5 minutes. The Michigan State alum became the first player in Warriors history to average at least one steal, one block and one three-pointer per game and was one of just two players in the league to do so this season (Danny Green). The third-year forward ranked fourth in the NBA in Defensive Rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) with a mark of 96.0 and finished second behind only teammate Stephen Curry with a plus/minus of +10.6.

Bogut appeared in 67 games (65 starts) for the Warriors, tallying 6.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.69 blocks in 23.6 minutes. The 10-year veteran finished third in Defensive Rating (95.2) and held opponents to 41.4 percent at the rim, the third best percentage in the league. The Warriors were 58-9 (.866) in games Bogut played this season compared to 9-6 (.600) in games he missed.

As a team, the Warriors led the league in Defensive Rating (98.2) and Net Rating (11.4), which measures the difference in a team’s offensive and defensive rating. Golden State led the league in opponent field goal percentage (.428) and opponent three-point percentage (.337) while also leading the league in field goal percentage (.478), becoming the first team since the 1980-81 Philadelphia 76ers to lead the league in both field goal percentage and defensive field goal percentage. The Warriors were 40-0 when holding their opponents below 100 points.

Green and Bogut helped lead the Warriors to a franchise-record and NBA-best 67 wins in 2014-15 (67-15, .817), capturing the club’s first Pacific Division title since 1975-76. The Warriors have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1976, earning a 110-106 win over Houston in Game 1 of the series last night.

Players were awarded two points for each First Team vote and one point for each Second Team vote. Voters were asked to select two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, choosing players at the position they play regularly.
