2016 Fit For Life Health Fair Recap

300 students came out to the 7th Annual Lakers Fit For Life Health Fair, presented by 24 Hour Fitness, on March 17 for an afternoon of lessons in nutrition and fun exercise with the Laker Girls and Lakers players. The fair is the highlight of the Lakers Fit for Life initiative, which aims to educate the community and the youth about the importance of physical fitness and nutrition.

The students came from 10 different Los Angeles Schools as a part of the Playworks program. Playworks is an organization that encourages positive play in schools, where students can have fun in safe environments, become leaders and carry their positive playground experiences into the classroom.

The students in attendance were Playworks Junior Coaches, young students that separated themselves as leaders at their schools by playing hard, cheering loud, high-fiving with joy and leading games that included all students.

From start to finish, The Lakers Fit For Life Health Fair was a day dedicated to emphasizing the importance of healthy lifestyles. Upon arrival, each student received a Fit For Life with the Los Angeles Lakers t-shirt and a healthy lunch, consisting of turkey, lettuce and tomato sandwiches from Jersey Mike’s Subs and organic bananas, oranges and apples from Super King Markets.

After fueling their bodies, the students fueled their minds by learning how the Laker Girls stay healthy and fit on and off the court with some Fit For Life Tips.

Lakers players Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., and Tarik Black then led students in exercise at different stations of schoolyard games, including: Tag, Dodgeball, Ro Sham Bo Rockstar, and relay races. The students rotated from station to station and every student had a chance to play in each game and to compete with the Lakers players.

After an afternoon of fitness and fun, the students from Playworks received Lakers 24 Hour Fitness gift bags and health and wellness tips to last a lifetime.

Thanks to 24 Hour Fitness, The Lakers and the kids from Playworks were served a fun-filled day and one that will serve as a lifelong reminder of the importance of healthy lifestyles.
