The L.A. Clippers Partner with Youth Empowerment Event, WE Day, to inspire One Million Hours of Service

Los Angeles, CA – The L. A. Clippers alongside WE Day, a global youth empowerment event, are partnering together to inspire one million hours of service and celebrate young people making a difference across America. Kicking off the partnership on February 3, 2016 at the STAPLES Center, the Clippers will introduce the first of three “WE Day Wednesday” games, where they will highlight students from Los Angeles who are making an impact in their communities through service.

WE Day Wednesday will take place during the Clippers’ remaining Wednesday home games of the NBA season, on February 3, February 24 and March 2, 2016 at the STAPLES Center. The Clippers community will be introduced to the stories of inspiring local youth who are passionate about giving back, and will learn about their journey to becoming “WE Day heroes”.

“The Clippers are excited to work alongside WE Day—together we share a belief that there is strength in community,” said L.A. Clippers President of Business Operations, Gillian Zucker. “The WE Day heroes that we’ll be highlighting are examples of young people who are making a difference in their own backyards, which perfectly aligns with the Clippers’ community mission to inspire children to make a positive difference in their L.A.”

The highlighted “heroes” will all be attending WE Day California, which will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on April 7, 2016. Uniting 16,000 students and educators from across the state, WE Day California will feature world-renowned speakers and performers in an inspirational setting like no other, celebrating the commitment young people have made to take action on local and global issues important to them. The WE Day stage has seen some of the world’s greatest speakers and performers, from Malala Yousafzai, and Sir Richard Branson to Demi Lovato, Orlando Bloom and Selena Gomez.

You can’t buy a ticket to WE Day—students from across the country earn their way by the actions they take on one local and one global cause of their choice. More than a one-day event, WE Day is connected to the yearlong WE Schools program, which provides hands-on, student-led campaigns designed to enhance a school’s existing social initiatives or to spark new ones. WE Schools helps young people turn WE Day’s inspiration into sustained action. By getting involved in WE Schools, students from across California will have a chance to be the next L.A. Clippers WE Day Hero.

“WE Day is a growing movement of young people working to create a better world for today and the generation of tomorrow. Last year, over 16,000 students from across California earned their tickets to WE Day by taking action on issues that they care about,” said Craig Kielburger, co-founder of we.org. “We are inspired by how the Clippers are investing back in their community and believe that our partnership will encourage more young people in Los Angeles, California and across America to continue thinking more about we and less about me.”
