10 Things to Know About Thomas Robinson

Thomas Robinson thought his story in Brooklyn might have started a little sooner, but now that he’s officially a Net, he can’t wait to get going.

“I’m glad I’m finally here and hopefully we can make this a long-term relationship,” he said.

Robinson has posted averages of 5.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game in 194 career games split among Sacramento, Houston, Portland and Philadelphia.

"Thomas is an aggressive rebounder who will add a physical presence to our frontcourt,” said Nets General Manager Billy King, upon signing the new player.

In his final 22 games of the season with Philadelphia, Robinson increased his averages to 8.8 points and 7.7 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game, registering seven double digit rebound games and three double-doubles.

Faced with a small setback earlier this summer, Robinson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage from his right knee and will be ready for on-court activities before the start of training camp. Brooklynnets.com sat down with the 24-year-old forward to get to know one of the new faces of the Nets.

First reactions on coming to Brooklyn: This time I hope it’s for real.

When not playing basketball: I spend a lot of time being with my family, trying to handle business stuff. I got real big into that over the last couple years, food franchising.

Favorite TV shows: Right now it’s “Power.” I’m not a big ‘when it’s in-season’ guy; I like to watch a season straight through. I just started “Homeland”; I love it. But “Power” is killing me right now because I have to keep waiting every week. I’d rather just let it go and watch it all at once later.

Favorite movie: I’m a big movie guy, but I don’t have a favorite. I like a lot of the older movies though that were made in the ‘90s.

Musical taste: Into different music, but mostly the main guys I’ve been listening to are Meek Mill and Future.

Other sports: Played football growing up. Then I started playing organized basketball when I was 12, was just something to do and I was bad at first. Got a little bit better and it’s worked out. [laughs]

Players who inspired him: When I was little, before I realized I’m not the same position, I always wanted to be a Dennis Rodman with a KG attitude. Like a better version where I could bring a little bit more of my game to it. Just to take guys like that and their mentality when it comes to playing on the court, I wanted to take that and go with it.

Favorite player growing up: Kobe was my favorite player growing up. He took over everything.

Game time rituals: I don’t have any rituals, but I do like at my tattoos sometimes to remind me while I’m playing; to calm me down or to get me going.

Familiarity with Brooklyn: I’ve been up here a few times during the season, still don’t know my way around the city, but I love it. I won’t have a problem being here, I’m comfortable here. I’m a city kid already so it’s kind of more my habitat.
