Kings Honor Gordon "Scotty" Stirling

Gordon "Scotty" Stirling, who spent 27 years as an executive in the Sacramento Kings organization, passed away on Wednesday morning.

Stirling served as the Director of Scouting for the Kings, helping to bring in talent such as Peja Stojakovic, Hedo Turkoglu, and Tyreke Evans during his time in that position.

In addition to his contributions to the Kings, Stirling also held the position of General Manager with the New York Knicks, the ABA's Oakland Oaks, and the NFL's Oakland Raiders. Stirling also worked as the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the NBA.

Members of the Sacramento Kings and NBA family have extended their condolences after the passing of a friend and respected colleague.

Vlade Divac, Kings Vice President of Basketball and General Manager

“Scotty was a true original, a pioneer in his industry, and one of the warmest people I’ve ever known. I’m deeply saddened by his passing and will be forever thankful to have known and worked closely with him.”

Jerry Reynolds, Kings television analyst

"[Scotty] was a real mentor and friend to me and just had a marvelous life. I think everybody that knew Scotty really liked him. My nickname for him was Scotty Ball, because every time I saw Scotty, we started talking ball. It perked me up and he's really going to be missed."

Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner

“Scotty was a highly regarded league executive who dedicated more than 35 years of his life to our game. He exuded passion for basketball and worked tirelessly in front-office roles with the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, and the ABA’s Oakland Oaks. Scotty also set a high standard as the NBA’s vice president of operations. With his vast knowledge and keen eye for talent, he earned the respect of his peers and colleagues. We extend our deepest sympathies to Scotty’s wife, Pam, and the Stirling family.”
