Experience or Unproven Talent?April 23, 2014

Whenever we analyze a playoff series, the term “experience” is nearly always used. It’s our most fundamental way of determining which teams have an advantage.

And while it’s always true that championship teams have a blend of goodies (savvy veterans and primed talent), it’s worth debating what is more valuable in the playoffs; experience or unverified talent?

Who would win a playoff series if these two imaginary teams were formed?

Team A: PG: Andre Miller SG: Ray Allen SF: Tayshaun Prince PF: Nazr Mohammed C: Jermaine O’Neal

Team B: PG: Michael Carter-Williams SG: Victor Oladipo SF: Giannis Antetokounmpo PF: Kelly Olynyk C: Andre Drummond

One team has a ton of championship experience but is aged and is all past their prime, while the other is filled with young promising talent that could all become stars in a few years.
