Jazz Bear to Participate in Mascot Bowl

LEHI, UTAH (September 16, 2014) – The 11th annual Mascot Bowl, a charity football game to benefit “Bear Hugs for Kids” and “Firemen and Friends for Kids,” will take place on Monday, Sept. 22 at Lehi High School.  Jazz Bear will once again join the all-star mascot team alongside this year’s celebrity coaches Jerry Sloan, Hall of Fame coach of the Utah Jazz, and Derek Parra, a two-time Olympic short track speedskating medalist.

Presented by Lehi High School Sports Marketing and Mountain Crane, the festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a mascot and celebrity autograph session, followed by the charity football game and capped by a fireworks show.  Tickets are $3 (children 2 and under are free) and can be purchased in advance at the Lehi High School financial office or at the gate on Monday night. Lehi High School is located at 180 North 500 East in Lehi, just west of I-15.

The event benefits “Bear Hugs for Kids” and “Firemen and Friends for Kids,” both of which provide holiday shopping sprees for local children in need, and is planned and executed by the Lehi High School Sports Marketing students under the direction of Becky White.

The all-star mascot team will take on the Lehi eighth-grade football team for an entertaining and action-packed charity game.  This year’s mascot team roster will feature local mascot celebrities playing alongside a variety of NBA, MLB/MiLB, NFL, MLS and ECHL mascots.  Local participants will include “Swoop” (University of Utah); “Cosmo” (Brigham Young University); “Willy” (Utah Valley University); “Rocky” (Rocky Mountain Raceway); “Big Blue” (Utah State University) “Waldo” (Weber State University); “Pioneer Pete” (Lehi High School); “Thor” (Southern Utah University); and “Felix” (Utah Falconz).

The NBA mascot team members will include “Bear” and “Lil’ Bear” (Utah Jazz), “Blaze” (Portland Trail Blazers), “Boomer” (Indiana Pacers) and “Crunch” (Minnesota Timberwolves).  Joining in the fun will be MLB’s “Baxter” (Arizona Diamondbacks) and MiLB’s “Bumble” (Salt Lake Bees); NFL’s “Miles” (Denver Broncos) and “Freddie” (Atlanta Falcons); MLS’s “Leo” (Real Salt Lake); and ECHL’s “Grizzbee” (Utah Grizzlies).

In addition to the game, activities will include photo and autograph opportunities with the mascots and celebrity coaches. Entertainment will feature performances by the Utah Jazz McDonald’s Dunk Team, America First Jazz Dancers and the Jazz Fit Stunt Team, and a halftime show by the Speed of Sound. The Lehi High cheer and drill teams also will perform throughout the game. There will be food, prizes, giveaways, contests, fireworks and activities for the entire family.
