Jazz Forward Continues Giving Back Through “Booker’s Thanksgiving Assist”

SALT LAKE CITY (November 20, 2014) – Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker will host “Booker’s Thanksgiving Assist” on Sunday, Nov. 23 to provide holiday cheer to local families in need.  Booker will personally take six pre-selected families grocery shopping at Smith’s Marketplace in Bountiful to help stock their kitchens with Thanksgiving meal items.

“Booker’s Thanksgiving Assist” is a continuation of Booker’s efforts to reduce hunger issues in Salt Lake. With guidance from the Bountiful Community Food Pantry, the Jazz forward identified six local families who can use a helping hand this holiday season.

Booker signed with the Jazz as a free agent this past summer. Immediately following his arrival in Salt Lake in September, the South Carolina native and self-professed cereal aficionado hosted “Booker’s Breakfast Assist” that resulted in cereal and milk donations for the Crossroads Urban Center. The event marked his first outreach event to address poverty and hunger in the Salt Lake community.

“I’m blessed to be in a position to help others, and this program is one way that I hope to give back to families in need,” said Booker. “The holidays are a time for loved ones to gather and share a special meal. I wanted to help make this possible for families who are experiencing financial hardships and may be forced to make tough choices during this time of year.”

“Booker’s Thanksgiving Assist” is part of the annual NBA Cares Season of Giving which will feature a variety of team and player-led charitable events and activities to brighten the holidays for thousands of children and families.
