Season Summary
Clarkson's second year in the NBA called for a position change, as he shifted from point guard to shooting guard after the drafting of D'Angelo Russell. The change allowed Clarkson to play off-ball and fill up the bucket, as his 15.5 point per game ranked second on his team, as well as among sophomores. Clarkson, who played at the Rising Stars Challenge, hit his stride in February, averaging 17.8 points on 49.6 percent shooting, but then tapered off the following month to 15.0 on 38.1 percent. However, he finished strong on the other end, with double figures in his final nine contests. While Clarkson's offensive capabilities were evident, he remains a question mark on defense, where he hurt the team's defensive rating by 5.9 points when on the floor.

"I was horrible on the defensive end this year, to be honest with you. I've got to make strides; put my hardhat on and get after it this summer. To be honest with you, I've never really worked on defense. So I've got to figure out ways to kind of integrate that in my summer stuff."
