Lakers Draft Ivica Zubac with 32nd Overall Pick

The Lakers decided to, literally, go big with their 32nd-overall pick at the 2016 NBA Draft, using the selection on 7-foot-1 center Ivica Zubac.

The 19-year-old Croatian played in his home country from 2013-16 for Zrinjevac and Cibona. He also helped the Croatian U19 National Team to a silver medal at the 2015 FIBA World Championship in Greece. He led his team with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the gold-medal match, though Croatia fell in overtime to the Untied States, 79-71.

Zubac played the last season for Mega Leks in the Adriatic League, where he averaged 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 22.5 minutes, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field.

A lifelong Lakers fan, he prides himself on his back-to-the-basket post game and ability to protect the paint. Though he only averaged 0.9 assists for Mega Leks, he considers his passing a strength as well.

At 265 pounds with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, Zubac has an imposing frame that he seeks to use to his advantage in the NBA.
