Tim Frazier will start for Pelicans against Timberwolves

New Orleans has experienced some positive results when relying on the backcourt pairing of point guards Jrue Holiday and Tim Frazier, but on Sunday, they’ll start the game together. Pelicans second-year head coach Alvin Gentry told media in pregame that he’s going with Frazier as a replacement in the first unit for Wayne Selden Jr., who has signed for the remainder of the season with Memphis.

Other notes from pregame at the Smoothie King Center:

A few hours before tip-off, the Pelicans announced that they were signing Quinn Cook to a 10-day contract. Cook was solid for New Orleans in preseason and had a big scoring game in China vs. Houston, but didn’t make the roster due to too many players on the squad at the guard spots.

Gentry on the Duke product: “He’s done a good job. He’s been real solid in the D-League, MVP of the All-Star Game. We liked him when we had him, it was a matter of numbers, really. He was available and we felt like we wanted to take another hard look at him.” …

Gentry indicated Cook may not play Sunday, due to just arriving in New Orleans today, but the Pelicans will try to get him into games soon. “We’re going to try to get him time on the court at some stage and evaluate him,” Gentry said. “We’ll try to find minutes for him.” …

Asked what New Orleans (28-41) did particularly well to beat Minnesota handily twice this season, Gentry quickly responded, “Anthony Davis. He’s been phenomenal against them. He’s been really, really good, which has freed up other guys on the floor.” The four-time All-Star is averaging 43.5 points in the two Timberwolves matchups.
