Magic to Represent Lakers at the Lottery

Lakers President of Basketball Operations and 1979 No. 1 overall pick Magic Johnson will represent the team at the NBA Draft Lottery on May 16.

While Magic will handle the televised portion of the event, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka will represent the team in the back where the lottery combinations will actually be drawn.

The Lakers have a 46.9 percent chance to land in the top three of the lottery, and thus keep their pick, which is top three protected. Should the Lakers fall out of the top three, however, the pick would go to Philadelphia.

The Sixers acquired the pick from Phoenix, who obtained it from the Lakers in the 2012 Steve Nash trade.

The Lakers had the second-best lottery odds in 2016 and remained in that second slot (55.8 percent chance at a top three pick) after the lottery. L.A. moved up two slots from their fourth-best odds in 2015, swapping places with the New York Knicks, when their pick was protected in the top five.

L.A. selected D'Angelo Russell second overall in 2015, and in 2016, they picked Brandon Ingram in that same draft slot.
