Grizz Week set to tip-off October 24 leading up to season opener

MEMPHIS, October 23, 2013 — The Grizzlies will be getting fans across the Mid-South excited about the start of their upcoming season in Memphis with Grizz Week, which tips off on Thursday, Oct. 24 and culminates with the Grizzlies regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Grizz Week is a series of community and promotional events around the city of Memphis which will get Grizz Nation ready to support the Bluff City’s team when they return to FedExForum on Nov. 1 to take on the Detroit Pistons in the home opener.

Grizz Week will begin Thursday, Oct. 24 with the 2013 Read to Achieve Tip-Off sponsored by International Paper at Bruce Elementary (581 S. Bellevue Memphis 38103). All-Star Reading Team members Jerryd Bayless, Ed Davis, Kosta Koufos and Quincy Pondexter, along with Grizz and the Grizz Girls, will be on-hand to take part in an event that has become a staple of the Grizzlies community efforts every season.  This is not a public event, but media is invited to attend the program that teaches children the importance of education and how much fun it can be to read outside of the classroom.

Fans will get one more chance to see the Grizzlies at home in preseason action on Friday, Oct. 25 as they welcome James Harden, Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets to FedExForum at 7 p.m. The game includes a special halftime appearance by the Memphis Rollin' Grizzlies, a wheelchair basketball team composed of individuals with a mixture of physical challenges working together to compete against other National Wheelchair Basketball Association teams across the Mid-South.
Grizz Week continues this weekend when MVP Season Ticket Holders are invited to FedExForum on Saturday, Oct. 26 for MVP Movie Night. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the event, which will feature concourse trick-or-treating, a haunted house, face painting and free popcorn and soda before an airing of the movie “Hotel Transylvania” at 7 p.m. Grizzlies forward Quincy Pondexter will be in attendance to distribute pumpkins in exchange for donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Fans can dine with the entire Grizzlies team, along with Head Coach Dave Joerger, CEO Jason Levien and COO Jason Wexler on Monday, Oct. 28 at the 12th Annual Tip-Off Luncheon presented by First Tennessee at FedExForum beginning at 11 a.m. In addition to lunch, participants can support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by bidding on one-of-a-kind items in both silent and live auctions during the event.
