The Chicago Sky have signed Linnae Harper and Chelsea Hopkins to training camp contracts, the team announced. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Harper, a versatile guard and Chicago native, began her collegiate career at the University of Kentucky before spending her final two seasons with Ohio State University. In her senior season with the Buckeyes, Harper was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team and the All-Big Ten Second Team. A graduate of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School on the city’s Near West Side, Harper was also one of only three players in the nation to average more than 14.4 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.
Hopkins, 27, joins the Chicago Sky’s training camp roster nearly five years after her professional playing career first began in 2013.
In the 2017 WNBA season, Hopkins signed two seven-day contracts with the Atlanta Dream and played in three games with the team. As a rookie in 2013, after graduating from San Diego State University, the 5-foot-8 guard appeared in four games with the San Antonio Stars (now Las Vegas Aces).
Most recently, Hopkins played overseas in Israel for Maccabi Bnot Ashdod and Maccabi Ramat Gan, where in 29 games she recorded 14.3 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game (ranking third-highest in the Israeli league), and was the leader in assists with 8.4 assists per game.
Training camp opens on April 29. The Sky’s 2018 season begins on the road against the Indiana Fever on Saturday, May 19, before hosting an event-filled home opener at Wintrust Arena on Sunday, May 20 when the team takes on the New York Liberty.
