Las Vegas Re-Signs All-Star Guard Sugar Rodgers

Las Vegas (February 18, 2020)Las Vegas Aces General Manager Dan Padover announced today that the Aces re-signed All-Star guard Sugar Rodgers.

“Sugar is a premier three-ball threat, as well as a solid defender who knows our system,” said Aces Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Bill Laimbeer. “Sugar has also embraced the Las Vegas community, and is the type of player, and person, that we want representing the Aces.”

The Aces originally acquired Rodgers on April 11, 2019 in a three-way deal with the Atlanta Dream and the New York Liberty. Las Vegas dealt forward Nia Coffey to Atlanta in exchange for the Dream’s second round pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, and then traded that pick to New York in exchange for Rodgers.

Last season, Rodgers helped the Aces to the top three-point shooting percentage in the league by connecting on 35.7 percent of her shots from long range. She saw action in 33 of 34 regular season games, averaging 3.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Over her seven-year career, Rodgers has connected on 34.9 percent of her three-pointers.

Rodgers was originally drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round of the 2013 WNBA Draft. The New York Liberty, then helmed by current Aces Head Coach Bill Laimbeer, acquired Rodgers in a 2014 trade, where she remained for the next five years.

The Georgetown grad enjoyed her best season in 2016 when she averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assist, while connecting on 41.3 percent of her shots from beyond the arc. New York won its second of three-straight Eastern Conference regular season titles that year. She followed that up with an All-Star-worthy campaign in 2017, averaging 10.5 points, a career-high 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
